Emily Love received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies from Haverford College, outside Philadelphia Pennsylvania. She spent her junior year of college studying at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. While in Mexico, she developed fluency in the Spanish language and familiarity with aspects of the politics and culture of Latin America.

After college graduation, Ms. Love moved to Washington D.C., where she worked in the press offices of two U.S. Senators. While in Washington D.C., she worked as a volunteer at Ayuda, a legal services agency representing local Latin American immigrants seeking legalization through the 1986 ?amnesty? and those seeking political asylum.

After spending four years in Washington D.C., Ms. Love moved back to the Chicago area, where she grew up. She spent one year working as the Public Information Coordinator at the agency now known as the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), before enrolling at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

During law school, she worked as a student clerk at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago (LAFC), assisting people seeking unemployment benefits, orders of protection from abusive spouses, and tenants facing eviction from their homes. While at LAFC, she also assisted in the preparation and prosecution of a class-action lawsuit against a business which profited off the desperation of many immigrants and ultimately caused many to be deported.

After graduating from law school, Ms. Love became an associate at the law firm presently known as Kempster, Keller, and Lenz-Calvo, in Chicago. During three years at that firm, Ms. Love gained experience in all aspects of immigration law. In July 1997, she opened the Law Office of Emily Love, practicing exclusively in United States immigration and nationality law.
